International students typically come to study abroad for quite a long time. An ordinary travel health insurance policy from the country of origin is unsuitable in Russia in almost any case. This sort of insurance policy is not valid in the majority of hospitals in Russia, and under such a policy you will likely have to pay for the treatment on your own and apply for a refund from the insurance company only once you return home. This is very inconvenient when you're far from home, not put into the completely safe tube, but leading active life.

So according to the national law of Russia you have to purchase a voluntary health insurance (VHI) policy almost immediately upon your arrival in Russia.

Our Institute provides assistance in obtaining a VHI policy. You can also obtain a VHI policy independently from any Russian insurer, but it will be quicker and less expensive to arrange it with our help.

Medical Insurance Policy

It is required for degree and exchange students to apply for RANEPA HVI to use University Medical Center services.

For students of RANEPA: home-based healthcare service(for campus area residents), beautician's counseling, 1 facial procedure, medical examinations to get admission to a swimming pool and sport groups are included in this program.

HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY

In Russia, healthcare is provided by the state and by private companies. You need a health insurance policy in order to be treated at state hospitals and health centres, including student clinics. Private clinics admit patients without insurance as long as they cover their own expensesю

How much is VHI?

The cost of a VHI for the ISS international students is ₽10 000 per year. It includes out-patient care, doctor call-out, emergency dental care, etc. For exchange students, we offer 1-semester VHI for ₽6 000.
In 2017 Russian insurance companies offered Moscow students VHI policies for ₽3,000 — $14,000 ($50-250). But they also provide medical care in clinics outside the campus. So to be able to consult at the RANEPA Campus Medical Center you students need to have RANEPA VHI.

What documents are required to arrange a VHI policy?

Usually a passport, a migration card are required and a copy of your Russian visa. Other Insurance companies will need a referral from the dean's office to confirm your status as a student.

All ISS international students apply for their VHI during orientation week. The manager from the Department of International Relations arranges 2-3 group visits to RANEPA Medical Center specifically for obtaining personal VHI.

Only first aid and emergency medical care are available to foreign citizens in Russia free of charge.

First aid

First aid in case of emergency (accidents, injuries, intoxication and other) is rendered by police officers, military officers, fire and rescue service workers and other appropriately trained individuals.

Emergency medical care

Emergency medical care in cases of immediate threat to life and health (accidents, injuries, intoxication and other) is provided by officers of public healthcare institutions (doctors stabilize the patient’s condition and further treatment is possible only with a valid policy or payment of expenses).

All other types of medical services are rendered on a fee-paying basis. To receive these services, international students must obtain insurance covering routine treatment including check-ups, tests, prescriptions and specialist consultations.

Arrival Medical Check Up

Upon students arrival to Moscow and before their checking in the Dormitory, it is required to pass a quick Medical Check Up. It lasts 5-10 minutes but this procedure is mandatory for all students who arrived from outside of Russia.
